Fishcake

IMG_0100.jpg

Fishcake was bought at the Goffs Land Rover Sale as a store. She is a good looking filly with a really nice pedigree, her grand-dam was second in the RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, and she is a half sister to dual festival winner Monkfish.

After breaking her in, she definitely showed us enough to warrant putting her in training. So she went off to Nicky Hendersons and he loved her but ultimately she wasn't the easiest to train due to the fact that we struggled to keep the weight on her.

She did eventually run in a bumper at Wincanton where the race was not run to suit and although she ran well, beaten just over 8 lengths by the winner, it was clear that as her pedigree suggested she needed a bit more of a trip.

So on her next start we decided to go over hurdles and over 2 1/2 miles this time, she ran green in the race which she was entitled to do as it was only her second ever start and her first over obstacles but the penny eventually dropped and she went away turning in to record a comfortable victory.

But unfortunately due to Fishcake again taking such a long time to recover after her run it was decided along with Nicky that maybe the best thing to do was retire her to stud as she was clearly going to be tricky to train.

We are delighted that she has been covered by Derby,  Eclipse, Irish Champions Stakes & Arc winner Golden Horn and look forward to seeing her progeny hit the racetrack in the years to come.
